The main problem of modern cryonics (the science of freezing living tissues) is the difficulty in defrosting these tissues in such a way that the ice crystals do not damage the living material. Therefore, research is underway around the world to create a safe technology for "defrosting". And the first in the world it managed to make domestic specialists from the Foundation for Advanced Studies (FPI), headed by Professor Anatoly Kovtun.
In a series of experiments, the heart of the frog was frozen at minus 196 degrees Celsius, and after 45 days it was successfully thawed and restored to activity of the organ. Such success can be a real breakthrough in transplantology, because due to the prolonged cryopreservation of tissues and organs, they can be kept much longer than now. Moreover, some organs can be stored in special storage facilities and thawed as necessary, without forcing the patient to risk his life in anticipation of the donor body. As Professor Kovtun stated in an interview with RIA Novosti,
"To date, the concept of vitrification of biological objects has been developed and experimentally substantiated on cell, tissue and organ models, providing freezing without crystallization in conditions of a 20-30 percent reduction in the total concentration of cryoprotectants. For example, in the aortic rat model, the restoration of the endothelial and smooth muscle layers of the vessel at a level of 85-95 percent of living cells after freezing to cryogenic temperatures has been proven. "
