US Air Force spokesman Heather Wilson said in a speech in the US Senate that SpaceX will take delivery of an experimental UAV X-37B to orbit using a Falcon 9 rocket. The launch, she said, will take place in August 2017.
The unmanned experimental vehicle X-37B was developed by Boeing engineers. In total there are two such apparatuses, one of which recently returned to Earth after two years of stay in orbit.
The purpose of the X-37B is unknown, but earlier in the Pentagon it was planned to conduct with it a series of tests related to the study of the properties of materials and how they change in space.
Earlier that SpaceX cooperates with the US Air Force in the framework of the program X-37B, it was not reported, but in 2016 the company Ilona Mask signed an agreement with the US Air Force, under which it committed to put two satellites into orbit in 2018. Last month, the company began the execution of another contract concluded with the US National Aerospace Intelligence Agency and brought into orbit the secret satellite of the agency.
