Nanoparticles from urea and citric acid will help in the fight against dangerous diseases

According to the Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, a group of scientists from Russia and Ukraine managed to create harmless nanoparticles based on urea and citric acid, which when injected into the human body "highlight" various organs and tissues. This approach can be used in the diagnosis of diseases and targeted delivery of medicines.

The development is called "Y-points", which are small nanoparticles consisting of carbon atoms and possessing unusual physical properties. They have the property of luminescence and are capable of "shining" in a living organism under ultraviolet illumination. Moreover, they can be made to shine in different colors. There are "Y-points" of the most common and cheap components: from citric acid and urea. To obtain them, you must melt the urea, add citric acid to it at a temperature of 120-200 degrees Celsius and put this mixture to dry. During the experiments it was possible to find out that the nanotubes easily penetrate into the cells, do not cause irritation and negative consequences, even with prolonged stay inside. According to the authors of the survey,

"Thanks to the" multicolor ", such points can be used to illuminate different organs or even other nanoparticles, the movement of which along the body and cells can be observed," firing "them with ultraviolet rays. This technology has already made it possible to trace how several kinds of "nanocontainers" work for drugs, and to discover that not all of them penetrate well into cells. "
