NASA began testing a miniature prototype supersonic aircraft

The prototype of a silent supersonic aircraft was developed by NASA engineers in conjunction with experts from Lockheed Martin. Before the creation of a full-fledged version so far, but QueSST, a miniature test sample, whose size is about 1/10 of the real aircraft, was already experienced in the wind tunnel.

Testing the prototype allowed to simulate the flight speed from 0.5 to 2000 thousand kilometers per hour. Thanks to tests conducted in Cleveland's Glenn Research Center, the developers have studied the aerodynamic properties of the prototype and how it behaves from the moment of take-off, during the flight and landing.

In NASA and Lockheed Martin are going to make a full-fledged aircraft, which when flying almost no noise. To do this, they work on the design of the aircraft, reducing the drag of air. Such a development can be very popular, because ordinary aircraft fly very loudly when flying.

For the development of QueSST are going to spend another year, the assembly will take two years, and flight testing of a full-fledged aircraft prototype should begin in 2020.
