Baldness (or, in a scientific way, alopecia) is a condition in which, for various reasons, a person begins to lose hair. And in some cases there is a loss of hair all over the body, up to the loss of eyebrows and eyelashes. Of course, alopecia is not a life-threatening condition, but from a purely aesthetic point of view it is a big problem (especially for women). According to LiveScience magazine, researchers from São Paulo in Brazil succeeded in reversing the process of hair loss with the help of a drug previously used to treat rheumatoid arthritis.
The authors of the research are physicians from the Albert Einstein Hospital, and the drug used during the experiment is called “Tofacitinib”, which helped return the hair to two subjects - a man and a woman.
Tofacinib is indicated for patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and is a JAK kinase inhibitor. During the experiment, volunteers used this drug daily for two months, after which the people's hair began to recover. At the same time in the long period of hair loss was not observed. Moreover, both patients were observed for nine months after the end of the experiment, and no deviations in the indicators of health and side effects were also observed.
