Scientists have discovered Cthulhu

Astronomers received a powerful signal from space

Some astronomers are convinced that there are so many planets in the universe, that among them there are not only potentially livable places, but also inhabited worlds, therefore, since the late 50s of the 20th century, scientists have been constantly searching for extraterrestrial civilizations within the SETI project (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence). Not only scientists and astronomers, but also many amateurs take part in these difficult searches, periodically bumping into something unusual and interesting. For example, in 1977, astronomers recorded an unusual signal, very similar to the one that scientists expected to ever receive. Dr. Jerry Eyman, who registered this signal, circled the group of symbols on paper and signed “Wow!”, Expressing his surprise at the find.

Despite increasing skepticism from a number of scientists regarding confidence in the existence of alien life, the search continues. And it looks like astronomers again were able to detect something interesting. Alexander Panov, an employee of the Zelenchukskaya radio astronomy observatory, spread the message that the RATAN-600 radio telescope detected a “strong signal towards HD164595”. Despite the fact that it was recorded by the radio telescope on May 15, 2015, information about its detection began to appear only recently. The fact is that since the discovery of this signal, scientists have been waiting for its repetition, which, alas, failed to detect.

No one claims that this signal was sent by a highly developed civilization, but astronomers urge colleagues to carefully examine the situation. The HD164595 star system is in the constellation Hercules at a distance of 95 light years from Earth and, according to expert estimates, its age is about 6 billion years. An exoplanet was previously detected in this system. Life on it, most likely, is impossible, but astronomers listened to Russian colleagues who called for observation, and on Monday began to monitor HD164595.

The received signal was very strong, and it could not have been sent by a civilization similar to ours in terms of development. In order to send a signal of such power, a potential civilization would need to master the star's energy for its needs. On the other hand, if the radio signal was sent to us intentionally, then anything is possible. According to SETI experts, theoretically such a message could have been sent by the so-called “Kardashev civilization of type II” in order to greet us or, for example, to send a signal for help.

The nature of the signal is not yet clear, however, astronomers almost completely exclude its accidental origin. According to them, the usual noise is the least. Opening plan to discuss in Mexico on the advice of SETI on September 27.
