Autism will be able to diagnose using video games

аутизм смогут диагностировать при помощи видеоигр

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), autism is increasingly observed in children and its percentage among the entire population has increased by 3-5% over the past few years, so the issue of early diagnosis is now quite acute. Scientists from the University of Strathclyde (University of Strathclyde) conducted a study in which they found that video games and special applications can help identify a terrible disease at a very early stage.

The head of the project is Jonathan Delafield-Butt , who specializes in child development and behavioral anomalies. His team, together with a startup Harimata , conducted an experiment in which 37 children aged 3 to 6 years participated. They were provided with tablets with built-in motion sensors, which recorded and recorded the movements of the fingers and hands of children. Analysis of the data showed that those young participants in the experiment who were diagnosed with autism made more sweeping gestures, applied more force and generally moved their fingers faster and more intensely than those who did not have autistic traits.

Based on the information received, scientists have developed a special application that will be a quick, cheap and interesting test for children for the presence of autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Delafield-Butt added:

“It can be a breakthrough in the diagnosis of autism, since it does not bear stress for children and does not require a visit to the clinic. In addition, early diagnosis is very important in this case, since the earlier the disorder is recognized, the easier it is to compensate for it. "

Scientists say that to complete the work requires an even greater number of tests on much more extensive control groups, you need to find out if there are any limitations and pitfalls in this method.
