Completed the first orbital circling of Juno around Jupiter

The International Space Agency reports that the Juno automatic interplanetary station has made the first flyover of Jupiter. The purpose of the mission, in which the spacecraft was launched, is to study the gravitational and magnetic fields of the planet. Along the way, scientists will try to confirm or refute the hypothesis that Jupiter has a solid core.

As a result of the flyby, “Juno” moved closer to Jupiter to a distance of 4,200 kilometers. NASA reports that this is a record - so far, not a single earth object has been so close to Jupiter yet. In total, nine spacecraft were able to fly to Jupiter, but only two of them successfully entered the planet orbit. The Yunona spacecraft launched from Earth in early August 2011, and entered Jupiter’s orbit on July 5, 2016, replacing the previous Galileo probe, which served in Jupiter’s orbit from 1995 to 2003.

The flight took place with the use of all scientific equipment and ended without incident and in normal mode at a speed of 208,000 kilometers per hour. At the moment, the information received from the probe is being processed, and after a few weeks NASA will publish new photos of the planet, which have become one of the results of the flyby.

The work of "Juno" will last until the beginning of 2018. By this time, the device will have to make 35 more flybys of the planet, after which it will transmit all the results of work to Earth, and then enter the atmosphere of the planet and burn there.
