Bruises, fractures, concussions - this is just a small list of things that can adversely affect the health of an elderly person, because, unlike young people, many old people are not even able to call for help. But the invention of scientists from the United States can change everything radically.
The development belongs to scientists from the University of Missouri (University of Missouri) and consists of a system of small sensors and sensors that are attached to clothing and do not interfere with movement. The devices measure walking speed, the distance between the steps of both legs, the distance between the steps of one leg, and the time it takes a person to overcome a certain distance. What is all this for? The fact is that, as the researchers found out, a decrease in the movement speed by 5 cm per second and a decrease in the distance between steps may indicate a change in gait and that the risk of loss of balance and a fall increases by 86% over the next three weeks.
Project manager Marilyn Rantz hopes that its development will help protect a large number of older people from injury. By her own admission:
“Receiving data that the gait is changing and the risk of falls is increasing will make it possible to take timely measures, such as paying more attention to an elderly patient, examining it or even prescribing the necessary treatment.
