Regardless of who you are and how clean you are, more than 10 thousand insects live in your house besides you. For insectophobic sufferers, this can be a nightmare, but, alas, it is impossible to avoid this. But do not be afraid: they will not cause you any harm (at least most of them).
As a result of a study of 50 homes in North Carolina, researchers found between 32 and 211 insect species in each apartment, living in different secluded areas. Many insects lived in furniture, and most of them are so small that you hardly ever noticed them.
The results of the study were published in the journal PeerJ. The study is considered the most accurate to date and is very representative, despite the fact that it was conducted in only one US state. Thus, on average, about 100 species of insects live in a residential house.
The most numerous of our cohabitants are ants, kozheedy, spiders, senoedy, detritnitsy, cockroaches and cicadas. In this case, the most "densely populated" rooms were the kitchen, living room and basement. An interesting fact is that of the 554 rooms surveyed, only four bathrooms and one bedroom turned out to be completely “lifeless”.
But do not rush to cause pest control. In the end, insects lived on Earth long before the appearance of man, and we must show respect for their "honorable age."
