Simple machines have their own beauty. StarIETH - a dog-like robot with a quadrocopter mounted on its back - resembles a robot launching a kite or a fairy leading on a pug's leash. Their movements separately do not look smooth, but together they create the effect of two cars playing with each other, largely due to the giant "cartoon" eyes of the robot dog.
This system is being developed by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich in the laboratory of autonomous robot systems on legs (LRASL). Although StarIETH was created only for research purposes, such a system may be useful during rescue operations.
It is easy to imagine how StarIETH will be able to carry out rescue operations: a powerful robot can penetrate a destroyed building, and then release a quadcopter for searches in hard-to-reach places.
