Proven mobile phone health security

The magnetic fields that create mobile phones and power lines do not harm human health. This conclusion was made by scientists at the University of Manchester.

Previous studies have shown that electromagnetic radiation from mobile devices and power cables can lead to infertility and cancer. Some even found a connection with the development of childhood leukemia.

Based on past data, the International Agency for Research on Cancer recognized low-frequency magnetic fields as potentially carcinogenic, and the health services recommended abandoning long mobile phone conversations. As for children, doctors advised them to use mobile phones only as a last resort.

Until recently, it was believed that magnetic fields destroy key proteins in the human body. But scientists at Manchester University have denied this.

According to The Telegraph, researchers have observed how weak magnetic fields affect flavoproteins, which play an important role in shaping health, managing the nervous system and repairing DNA - damage to these proteins poses health problems. As it turned out, the impact of these fields does not affect the functioning of flavoproteins.

People are still worried about the possible link between radiation and childhood leukemia, as revealed in past studies. However, a clear mechanism was never found, ”said study co-author Alex Jones of the School of Chemistry at the University of Manchester.

Flavoproteins transfer electrons from one place to another. Along the way, short-lived compounds are often formed, known as radical pairs. It is believed that the biochemical reactions in which they participate are very sensitive to electromagnetic radiation under certain conditions. New research has shown that the right conditions for the biochemical effect of a weak electromagnetic field are very rare in human biology.

Another author of the study, Professor Nigel Scratton, added the words of a colleague:

To establish other possible connections, additional research will be needed, but this work already allows us to assert that power lines, mobile telephones and the like are safe for humans.

It is worth noting that this is not the only study confirming the safety of mobile devices. In 2010, the British Agency for Health Protection did not find convincing evidence that mobile phones and Wi-Fi access points are harmful to humans. However, AGNIR, an independent advisory group on non-ionizing radiation, insists on exploring the long-term effects of radiation from mobile devices.

A study by scientists at the University of Manchester was published in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface.
