Scientists have discovered Cthulhu

The threat of the fall of asteroids on Earth has increased 10 times

In February of this year, more than 1,600 people were injured by a meteorite explosion over Chelyabinsk. The explosion was so powerful that only one flash caused burns and temporary vision loss in some witnesses. After studying the videotapes and the area where meteorite fragments fell, the scientists now decided to invent a new horror story: they believe that such an incident can be repeated 10 times more likely than previously thought.

Interestingly, this incident with the Chelyabinsk meteorite was generally the first example when the incident itself, as well as its consequences, were captured on video. In addition, as scientists say, a meteorite discovered near-earth satellites, when he was already beginning to enter the atmosphere. Scientists are still finding all the new fragments of this cosmic body, one of which turned out to be a piece weighing more than 600 kg. Several research teams, united, go to the place of the fall of the fragments and continue to do video surveillance. On the basis of the data obtained, the scientists decided to create a computer model of the meteorite following and its explosion in our atmosphere.

After the meteorite exploded, the shock wave from the explosion dispersed within a radius of 88 kilometers above the surface, breaking the glass in the windows and knocking down the people who were closest to the epicenter to the floor. More than 1,200 people who were closest to the explosion were subsequently sent to hospital. Scientists have calculated that the energy released during the explosion was equivalent to the explosions of forty bombs dropped on Hiroshima. After the explosion, the fragments of a meteorite scattered on the surface at a speed of almost 64.5 thousand km / h. Fortunately for the residents of Chelyabinsk, most of the meteorite evaporated as a result of this process, otherwise the destruction and casualties would have been much greater.

After studying the video on which the meteorite itself and its explosion were filmed, the scientists decided to create a computer model of its movement trajectory in order to find out where it came from. The researchers believe that the Chelyabinsk meteorite was moving from the “Flora Family” - a group of S-class asteroids located in the inner part of the main asteroid belt, which is located inside our Solar System. However, scientists believe that "our" meteorite was originally part of a larger asteroid, which split into pieces about 1 million years ago.

So what does all this mean? This means that whoever “created” the Chelyabinsk meteorite, “he” or “it” could create a pebble of a much larger size, according to Port Space. Relying on these assumptions, scientists believe that the possibility of similar space objects falling to Earth is now 10 times more likely than previously thought. Fortunately for us, more and more different space agencies are looking for ways to effectively detect and monitor these space objects, as well as ways to reflect their impact on our planet.
