Scientists have discovered Cthulhu

There is no connection between cosmic rays and global warming.

Global-Warming

Supporters of the theory that the cause of global warming are constantly attacking us cosmic rays, or cosmic radiation, once again have to think about the correctness of their findings. And all thanks to a new scientific study, the results of which were published in the Western scientific journal Environmental Research Letters. According to the study, there is practically no connection between these two phenomena.

Some scientists who study climate and climate change believe that global warming is caused not by greenhouse gases generated by human activity, but is actually the result of cosmic rays, some of which are not blocked by the atmosphere and penetrate our planet. In their opinion, it is cosmic radiation, and not human pollution, that contribute to this negative meteorological phenomenon.

However, a new study based on various climatic data collected over the past 50 years suggests that there is only a very small connection between cosmic rays and climate change on Earth. According to the publication Physics World, an expert from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute Rasmus Benestad arrived at this conclusion.

According to the scientist, the theory of cosmic rays, based on the fact that some of the cosmic radiation penetrating into the clouds plays an important role in climate change, in fact has no scientific value, because it has practically no scientific basis based on evidence. Changes in the behavior of the sun, the scientist adds, are also not the cause of global warming on Earth.

In order to arrive at such conclusions, Bonestad compared annually obtained data on cosmic rays, collected from 1951 to 2006, with changes in temperature indicators, data on precipitation and atmospheric pressure at sea level during the same reporting period. And this comparison showed no direct and significant connection.

In addition, the researcher took into account some weather phenomena such as the Southern Oscillation (fluctuations in the temperature of the surface water layer in the equatorial Pacific Ocean, which has a noticeable effect on climate), and also studied the concentration of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, freons, and so on). further) in the atmosphere of our planet.

“As a result of my work, I was able to detect only a minor correlation between cosmic rays and changes in meteorological indicators: temperature, atmospheric pressure and indicators in precipitation levels,” says Benestad.

“And these changes cannot be considered within the framework of world scale. Perhaps the only exception may be some parts of Europe, ”the researcher continues, explaining that the effect of galactic cosmic ray fluxes on the atmosphere over parts of Europe somewhat reduces the average temperature over these areas.

However, scientists place serious emphasis on the fact that this impact is extremely insignificant.

“A new aspect of this study was the use of a data analysis method, in which linear algebra and regressive information analysis are used. This approach allows us to simultaneously study a greater flow of quantitative changes, ”summarizes Benestad.
