Scientists have discovered Cthulhu

Lack of sleep can cause a heart attack.

Night

According to new studies by Dutch scientists from the National Institute for Public Health and Citizen Development, it turned out that people who sleep little or smoke very often have one common predisposition: an increased chance of dying from a heart attack.

Scientists also tend to believe that people who exercise, eat healthy, and don’t drink too much alcohol, get more benefits from these activities if they also care about how much time they usually sleep. Researchers say seven or more hours of sleep significantly increase the positive effects of a healthy lifestyle.

Scientists came to all these conclusions after they studied data on chronic diseases of 14 thousand people over the past 12 years. Those people who adhered to the five main aspects of a healthy life (did not smoke, play sports, eat healthy foods, did not drink and slept at least 7 hours a day) had a 65 percent lower risk of developing heart disease. And the risk of getting a heart attack sooner or later in these people was 83 percent lower than those who neglected these simple rules.

The lead specialist in this study, Dr. Monique Verschuren from the National Institute for Public Health and Citizen Development in the Netherlands, says:

"These studies directly make it clear that the role and importance of sleep should also be taken into account when it comes to the possibility of reducing the risk of developing heart disease."
