But the irony is that for humanity, some aspects of planetary bodies in our own solar system still remain dark. But one such mystery has recently been completely unraveled - for the first time, scientists were able to fully describe in great detail the surface of our neighbor with the Earth - Mercury.
NASA Aerospace Agency uploaded to the Network a video compiled from a variety of images captured by the Messenger, an American automatic interplanetary station (AMS) for the study of Mercury, launched back in 2004. The device took two years to collect all the necessary data.
Explaining the importance of the work done and the images taken, Brett Denevi of the Johns Hopkins University Laboratory of Applied Physics reports:
“This is a great achievement for us - for a long time one half of the planet has always remained a mystery to us, but thanks to the Messenger we received a complete description of Mercury, which will help us better understand the general processes that the planet underwent as a result of its formation and development.”
Surely many of you, having watched the video, will notice the unusual blue “coloring” of the planet. But do not rush to conclusions: NASA just applied a special filter to the image, which will allow you to see the relief of the planet in almost the smallest detail.
