Scientists have learned to read our dreams

sleep

Nobody really looks like this when sleeping

Researchers at ATR Computational Neuroscience Laboratories in Kyoto, Japan, were the first to read human sleep information using brain scintigraphy (scanning) for this purpose. To analyze the neurological activity of the brain of volunteers during sleep, a scanner was used. And now scientists with some degree of accuracy can explain what specifically dreamed of this or that person.

The experiment began immediately after the person began to dream. They were awakened almost immediately and asked to name the first thing that they saw in their dream. Then, scientists compared the results of activity at that time with the objects that the volunteers saw, and based on this they compiled a categorical database. All those who saw in their dreams, for example, some kind of vehicle, whether it be a bus or a car, were united under the usual category. This process was repeated with one volunteer 200 times.

The information collected was then used as a basis for explaining the results of brain scans. With an accuracy of about 60 percent, which is quite a lot, but not reliable enough, a group of scientists retold what a person actually dreamed of.

We are able to read information through brain scanning during sleep. This was confirmed by further explanations of the subjects themselves, ”says Professor Kamitani, who participated in this study.

I am convinced that sleep decoding may one day become part of the study of the dream issue itself. I was not surprised when I found out, but the results delighted me.

It should be clarified that at the moment, scientists are conducting experiments with the so-called shallow sleep phase. The researchers' further desire is to analyze information from the deep sleep phase.
