Researchers from the University of Maryland found that a regular comic can introduce artificial intelligence into a stupor. Mohit Iyer and the team of specialists decided to do the necessary and important task - to acquaint artificial intelligence with comics, and at the same time to find out whether the program will deal with all these pictures and text, comparing them with each other in the correct sequence.
To do this, scientists scanned about four thousand different comic magazines, making a large library that includes more than a million individual images. The text from the pictures was also digitized, so that the AI was easier to understand the subjects. After that, the program showed different pictures, and she had to guess what would happen next, comparing pictures and fragments of text.
It turned out that artificial intelligence could not do it: image recognition algorithms could not figure out the pictures because the drawing styles were different, there were a lot of images, and the text in the pictures was inextricably linked to what or who were drawn, so the program could not cope with the task. Shortly after testing began, artificial intelligence was confused, showing record low results. Apparently, the lack of imaginative thinking affected.
