Nanotechnology allows scientists to cut fluid

Researchers at Shanghai University have developed a liquid material that can be cut and forced to take different forms, like gelatin. For this, the liquid was covered with a layer of hydrophobic material with a thickness of only 20 nanometers.

The material used consists of special silicone particles and is single-layered, that is, consists of only one molecule in thickness. Due to this material remains transparent. Researchers call it "liquid clay". If you move it using a hydrophobic tool, it retains its shape. At the same time, two drops of material merge like ordinary drops of water.

Bulging drops of plasticine can be used in the production of liquid magnifying lenses. The researchers also found that by adding chemicals, they dissolve more slowly than in ordinary liquid, slowing down the chemical reaction. Thus, drops of liquid plasticine can be used by chemists as miniature "test tubes", and their transparency will allow to observe the chemical processes taking place.
