A group of archaeologists from the University of Birmingham, as part of a regular excavation in Aberdeenshire, in Scotland, discovered, she believes, the oldest man-made lunar calendar, whose age is estimated to be at least 10 thousand years old.

Scientists from the University of Birmingham say that a calendar found on a field near the English castle of Krathes consists of 12 carefully executed pits arranged in a row. Each such pit, according to archaeologists, symbolizes one month of the year and the phase in which the moon is located.
In truth, the first excavations in Aberdeenshire and this find took place back in 2004. However, scientists were only now able to conduct all the necessary analyzes of this discovery, the results of which led them to believe that in front of them is the oldest structure of this kind.
Scientists believe that residents of these places most likely used this facility to track time in order to prepare in advance for seasonal changes and stock up on food.
