NASA's Cassini space research satellite sent new news: a photograph of two Saturn satellites, Mimas and Pandora, all in one shot. Pandora, the smaller body in the picture, has such a low density that it even has an irregular elongated shape. The size of Pandora is only 81 kilometers.
Compared to Pandora, Mimas looks like a giant. Moreover, from this angle (as in the photo above), for some reason, it resembles the “Death Star” from the well-known cosmic cinema saga. Perhaps this is just my stormy imagination, but that is exactly how Mimas appears to me in this photograph.
This image was taken on May 14, 2013 at a distance of approximately 1.1 million kilometers from Mimas and 1.2 million kilometers from Pandora.
The planet Saturn itself has 62 natural satellites, and only 53 of them received their official names. Titan, the largest satellite of Saturn, is the second largest (after the satellite of Jupiter Ganymede) in our solar system. He is even bigger than the planet Mercury.
